The Springfield Sports Commission, a division of the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau, is dedicated to bringing high-quality athletic events to Springfield. By targeting tournament organizers, national governing bodies, and associations such as the NCAA and Missouri State High School Activities Association, the organization works to position Springfield as a premier destination for competitive sports.
To support this mission, the Sports Commission needed a creative way to stand out to decision-makers and showcase the city’s wide range of athletic venues in a memorable, engaging format.
To capture attention in a crowded and competitive space, we developed a highly tactile and experience-driven direct mail campaign designed to leave a lasting impression. Centered around the concept “Let’s Make This Official,” the campaign leaned into sports culture with a nostalgic, playful twist.
The final deliverable was a custom mailer box featuring a branded bobblehead and a curated set of sports trading cards. Each card highlighted a different athletic facility in Springfield, showcasing key features and capabilities in a format that felt both collectible and informative.
This physical experience was strategically designed to drive recipients to a digital catalog, where they could further explore Springfield’s venues and envision their events in the space. By blending storytelling, interactivity, and strong visual design, the campaign transformed a traditional outreach effort into something recipients would keep, revisit, and remember.
The Springfield Sports Commission launched a standout outreach campaign that elevated how they connect with event organizers. By combining creativity with strategy, the mailer successfully positioned Springfield as both a professional and personality-driven destination for athletic events.
While long-term results are still developing, the campaign established a strong first impression with key decision-makers and created a unique entry point for future conversations. The piece’s memorable format and cohesive messaging helped differentiate Springfield in a competitive national landscape, reinforcing its potential as a host city for major sporting events.
